Some people call them affirmations. Some people call them declarations.
Some people say them daily in the morning as a reminder and a positive start to their day; some don't.
Some people search for examples and adopt the ones they like as their own. Some spend ages crafting their own.
Whatever you call them and however you use them, they're a series of statements that collectively identify the person saying/crafting them.
I learned about them through the coaching community I trained with (Insight Coaching Community) as well as at prophetic training at church.
I spent the first year or two 'copying' statements that I liked, before discovering my own statements - statements that really ring true for me.
These days, I try to read them to myself in the morning after I finish my morning quiet time (the keyword here is 'try').
I can't say that I'm always the person my statements say I am.
But they're a reminder that this is who I want to be on a daily basis, and who I can choose to be on a daily basis.
One day at a time.
These statements are a work in progress, and will continue to be a work in progress until my days are over.
I, for one, am looking forward to seeing how they evolve.
For now, for this season, the following are my identity statements:
I am an embodiment of LOVE. The Spirit and I are one.
I am a creator. I am continually creating miracles with my words.
I am a magical storyteller. I speak light and life into people’s lives. People are their most authentic, best and true selves when they are with me.
I am a wise and faithful manager of the bountiful resources I am blessed with.
I am a lifelong learner. I am continually learning, growing and expanding in knowledge and wisdom.
I am the Lord's worker. I am that I work with diligence and discipline.
I am humble, yet confident in who I am and my being.
I am as gentle as a dove, and firm as a rock.
I am that no one is worthy of my judgement and that everyone is worthy of my love.
I am that I love by honoring and respecting people’s freedom to choose, regardless of my own views.
I am that I choose to be present and intentional at every single moment.
I am a living testament that being Chinese is very attractive.
I am deeply in love with my amazing, intelligent and handsome husband, Rod.
I am extraordinarily loving, patient and kind with my children, Lucas and Holly.
I am the best coach, the best leader, the best partner and the best cheerleader any client can ever have.
I am free from any chains that bind, whether that be things, time or place.
I am a lover of life, the journey of life and its many lessons.
I am generous, in that I am for giving and forgiving, especially to myself.
I am love, I am loved, and I love - just as Jesus is.
I am enough. All that I am being, doing, achieving and feeling is enough.
This is who I am and who I am continually being.
My parents named me Amy, which means beloved.
